Uniquely Garden Hortica

What's NEW at Garden Hortica

Music in the Garden, Oct 14, 2011

An evening-night event when the weather was perfect and we had so many
enjoy the food, drink and of course the music.  So much fun in a garden by night!

Once again we are fulfilling our mission of a community garden space where we can
gather, share, chat and get to know our neighbors.  All this in a downtown urban
setting surrounded by mostly concrete and tall buildings.

Park(ing) Day Sep 17, 2011

Garden Hortica designed a parklet for the day on busy Lakeshore Ave. to show and tell
plus gather community feedback and support for a permanent parklet.

GH Letterbox Planters prototypes.  These are similar to the GH Letterbox planters on site which were installed in March 2011.

The floorboards of the parklet were signed by many supporters for a permanent
parklet on Lakeshore.  The floor boards will be installed at TJs as part of further
awareness and fund raising for the permanent parklet.  The LS Letterbox planters will
be used by TJs to also create further interest.

Art in the Garden

Hyde next to his nearly finished work, yet unnamed, at Art in the Garden Aug 13 & 14, 2011.  If you want to hold an event in a most unique space contact us.  This work of art will be on show at Garden Hortica.  More pics of this event at www.facebook.com/gardenhorticaplace

  • On April 23 we will celebrate our first anniversary at our downtown location.  We learned a lot from Mother Nature.  The winter rains were nasty but plants are tough guys.  So were many of the garden elements we built.
  • The roof garden on our GH Green Box got established.  So here is a pic of the calendrinia rejoicing on a Sunny Spring day.

  • We went back and forth about what kind of signage and facade improvements to do for GH.  Now we have completed the installation of our GH Letterbox Planters that double up as planters AND signage.  The GH Screen Panel gates are much more appealing than the chain link gate.  Now you cannot miss us!
  • We completed these two new designs in time to show them at the March 2011 San Francisco Flower Garden Show.  Our booth won an Exhibitor Award for Outstanding Visual Presentation beating out over 200 other exhibitors!
  • In the past we have been a garden designer for the 2006 (Stone Garden) and 2008 (The Jeweled Garden) San Francisco Flower and Garden show.

  • In November 2010 we submitted our GH Letterbox Planter design for Oakland's Dimond district public artworks project.  We got selected!
  • GH was nominated for an Oakland Soul and Newbie Award.
  • GH is now stocked up with a new inventory of succulents, cacti and more Australian native plants for the 2011 season.
